As a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), we support and recognise the global efforts to significantly increase sustainable and good environmental practices in the plastics industry.
Reusing & Recycling plastic is a key component if this effort.
Clear flexible packaging films made from single resin plastics such as Polyester #1, High Density Polyethylene #2, Low Density Polyethylene #4 & Polypropylene #5 used to package perishable foods can be recycled many times.
We need to dramatically increase the recycling capacity worldwide to create a fully circular plastic packaging supply chain to achieve this goal.
Ultraperf remains committed to fostering sustainability, innovation, and responsible practices in its operations, ensuring a positive impact on both the environment and the packaging industry.
Our dedication to this effort encompasses several key principles that drive our business practices:
We actively work to minimize plastic & cardboard waste in our production processes, reducing excess packaging, and using recyclable materials.
Internal plastics & paper/cardboard waste are sent to a recycling facility. We also encourage our customers to recycle their plastic products wherever possible.
Most of the plastic films we sell are made from single resins, they are 100% recyclable. This also includes our laminated films which are largely made from single resin films.
We continuously improve the energy efficiency of our manufacturing operations, reducing our carbon footprint and overall environmental impact. We are in Quebec, Canada where most of our electricity is produced from hydroelectric power, a clean energy source.
Plastic is a vital packaging material for many perishable food items due to the many benefits it provides:
Flexible plastics form a physical barrier that shields food from external contaminants, including insects, dust & bacteria thereby reducing spoilage.
Plastic pouches, wraps, and containers protect food during transportation, reducing physical damage and minimizing losses.
Fruits & vegetables, specifically, contain high levels of water which evaporates during distribution, reducing the quality & shelf life. Microperforated plastic films play a vital role in moisture retention & gas control, which extends the quality & shelf life of most fresh produce thereby reducing food waste.
Plastic food packaging is very light weight which reduces freight costs as compared to other packaging options such as metal, paper & glass. It is also significantly less expensive as compared to other packaging materials. The excellent transparency of plastic films is ideal for in store merchandising.
